Privacy Policy | Bound Reads

Bound Reads (“we”, “us”, or “the app”) is a personal book collection tracker that helps you manage your library, track reading progress, set goals, join book clubs, and (for authors) coordinate advance reader copies. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you register, we store your email address and the display name you provide. Your account is tied to a unique user identifier.

Library & reading data. The books, shelves, reading status, progress, page counts, ratings, notes, quotes, highlights, reading goals, challenges, and timeline entries you create. This data is specific to your account.

Book club activity. Club memberships, messages you post in club chats, meeting RSVPs, and feedback you submit.

Author Toolkit data. If you use the Author Toolkit, we store your written works, word counts, advance copy (ARC/ALC) recipient lists, and team rosters you create.

Subscription & membership data. Your membership plan, billing cycle, and transaction status. Payment card details are never stored by us — they are handled entirely by our payment processor.

Optional connected services. If you connect a service such as Google Calendar or Outlook to sync book club meetings, we store only the event references needed to keep that sync working.

Google Sheets backup. If you enable Google Sheets backup, Bound Reads creates a backup spreadsheet of your library and reading data in your own connected Google account. Bound Reads does not retain a separate copy of that spreadsheet.

Technical & usage data. Browser type, device identifiers, and aggregated usage analytics that help us keep the app reliable and secure.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide, maintain, and improve your library, goals, clubs, and Author Toolkit features.

Look up book metadata (titles, authors, covers) from public sources such as Open Library and Google Books to enrich your library entries.

Process membership subscriptions and keep your access level accurate.

Send you in-app notifications, reading reminders, and account-related emails you request.

Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.

Comply with legal obligations.

3. Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as described here:

Payment processing: Membership payments are processed by our payment provider (Wix Payments). We receive only the transaction status and checkout reference — never your card number.

Book metadata: Book lookups are sent to Open Library and Google Books APIs to fetch titles, authors, and cover images.

Optional integrations: If you connect Google Calendar or Outlook, meeting details are shared with that provider to create calendar events.

Google Sheets backup: If you choose to use Google Sheets backup, relevant library and reading data is sent to Google solely to create and maintain your backup spreadsheet in your own Google account. You can manage or delete those spreadsheets directly in Google Drive.

Service infrastructure: Hosting and database providers process and store data on our behalf to run the app.

Legal compliance: We may disclose information when required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of others.

4. Data Retention

We keep your library, reading, and club data for as long as your account is active so you can access your full collection history. You can delete individual books, clubs, or your entire account at any time; deletion removes the associated data from active systems. We retain limited transaction and audit records where needed for accounting and security. Backup spreadsheets stored in your Google account are controlled by you and remain subject to Google’s retention and deletion controls.

5. Security

We protect your data with access controls, encryption in transit, and isolated per-user data access so one reader cannot see another reader’s library. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.

6. Your Rights & Choices

You can:

Access and export your library and reading data from within the app.

Update your profile, theme, and notification preferences in Settings.

Disconnect optional integrations (Google Calendar, Outlook) at any time.

Cancel a membership at any time; access continues until the end of the current billing cycle.

Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

7. Children’s Privacy

Bound Reads is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Book clubs may be marked 18+ at the owner’s discretion. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. International Users

The app and its providers may process and store data in countries outside your own. By using Bound Reads, you consent to that transfer and processing subject to this policy.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the revised policy.
